Slow Cooker, French Style, Beef Casserole Recipe
600g Diced chuck steak
1 x Large brown onion, sliced
½ Cup plain flour
½ Cup x Beef stock
½ Cup x red wine, optional – refer comment below
1 x Tin 400g diced tomatoes
3 x Medium “blue skin” potatoes, peeled and quartered
2 x Medium carrots, peeled and diced
3 x Celery stalks, washed and diced
8 x Field mushrooms, quartered
6 x Full teaspoons of Spice Roads, French Slow Cooker Blend
Important: Sea Salt and Black Pepper has already been added to this Spice blend.
Comments: During testing of this recipe we found that leaving the skin on the potatoes also worked well. And a good time saver.
Given that this recipe will often be prepared in the early morning before work, to be ready for the evening meal, the red wine is optional.
Opening a favourite red around breakfast can sometimes be daunting !
Lightly coat the diced meat with the flour and brown in a large heavy based pan using the olive oil.
When brown set meat aside and deglaze the pan with the beef stock.
Place the carrots, celery, potatoes, mushrooms and sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker then add the meat.
Mix the deglazed stock from the pan with the tomatoes and the Spice Road, Spice Blend, then add to the meat with the red wine. Stir and set the timer for 6.5 hours
